Five Digital Video students from Griffith University on the Gold
Coast took a chance and sent their script to veteran actor Erich Thill
(Peter Pan, The Lost World, George of the Jungle) who agreed to do
their low/no budget thriller free of charge.
With a meer $300 budget between them, they begged and borrowed props,
tapes, music and make-up artists to produce their 10 minute award
winning short, The Channel.
At the 2004 Griffith University School of Arts Awards, the crew of
Autology Films won Best Film, Best Original Score, while Erich Thill
won Best Actor.
With Erich Thill's contacts in the film industry, The Channel made
its way into the hands of Lord of the Rings Director Peter Jackson,
who gave it the thumbs up after viewing it in his private basement
theatre.
